A Civil Funeral is a ceremony that reflects the beliefs and values of the deceased or their family rather than those of the Celebrant. Because it is tailored to the wishes of the client, the ceremony may be entirely secular or could include religious or spiritual elements. It is not the same as a Humanist funeral, which will always be entirely secular and based on the principles of Humanism.

Civil Funerals are usually held in crematoria or cemeteries, but may take place in any suitable venue; there is no need for it to be licensed.

A Civil Funeral should be both a dignified tribute and a highly personal memoir, created by a professional Celebrant in consultation with the family.
